Designing an Ebook cover

As the number of Ebooks on net grows, the need for attractive Ebook covers also expand. An attractive Ebook cover catches the eye of a visitor and draws him towards your site. In this tutorial we'll create a nice Ebook cover and then convert it into 3D look Ebook.

Create a rectangle using rectangular shape tool.

Create another rectangle as shown below. This time use a darker shade of the same color.

Create a rectangular strip using rectangular shape tool. Place it on the top as shown below.
Now Create a square using rectangular shape tool. Just press shift while creating this so that all sides are equal. Fill it with white color.

Again using rectangular shape tool create many thin vertical lines. This will serve as a simulation of bar-code.

Create a circle using elliptical shape tool. Place it on the top right.

Double click the layer to open layer style window. Apply settings as shown.
Select custom shape tool (U). From preset shape fly out menu at the top, choose "Seal" shape.

Drag the tool above the circle to create seal shape.

 

Create another circle using elliptical shape tool. Draw it right above the seal shape.
Double click the layer to open layer style window. Apply settings as shown.

Type text using nice font and bright color.

Type the title of Ebook using nice big font so that its very clear and visible.
Press Ctrl+J to create the duplicate of this layer. Press Ctrl+T, Right click and select Rotate 90° CCW.
Create a rectangle using rectangular shape tool. Insert cut out of a thinking man and place it on bottom right.
Insert an image of world map. Make sure that this image layer is right above the rectangle layer in layer palette.
Press Ctrl+Alt+G to create a clipping mask. Creating a clipping mask let us show the image through the shape layer right below.
Select all layers in layer palette. Press Ctrl+E to merge the layers together. Create a rectangular selection using rectangular marquee tool.
Press Shift+Ctrl+J to cut paste the selection in a new layer. Press Ctrl+T. Right Click and select perspective.
Adjust the handel's as shown below.
Select the other layer Press Ctrl+T. Right Click and select Perspective again.

The idea is to create a 3D look as shown in the image below.
Create a rectangular selection using rectangular marquee tool. Press delete to remove the unwanted area of seal shape.
Select Polygonal lasso Tool and select the unwanted area at the top by dragging the tool from one end to the other and then coming back to the starting point to close the selection.
Press delete to remove the area inside the selection.
Select the layer containing front side of the Ebook. Double click the layer to open layer style window. Apply settings as shown.
Also apply the same layer style on the left hand style. Create a rectangle using rectangular shape tool. Fill it with white color and place it on the top.
Create another thin rectangular strip using rectangular shape tool. Fill it with black color.
Select and merge both rectangle layers. Press Ctrl+T. Right Click and select distort.
Adjust the handel's as shown.
Select magic wand tool, click on white area. Create a new layer.
Double click the gradient tool to open gradient editor. Create a gray to transparent gradient.
Drag the tool from top right towards left to create a subtle gradient effect.
